3.3.11. A cranked shaft

1. Before removing a cranked shaft, measure its free wheeling by means of the special device (drawing at the left) or with the help probeа near the persistent bearing (drawing on the right). If the backlash more than is required, examine half rings of the persistent bearing on deterioration presence if half rings are not worn out, it is necessary to establish new to adjust a backlash.
2. Covers of radical bearings should be numbered on increasing, from a forward cover to back if it not so, number them. Usually on covers there is an arrow who is directed towards a forward part of the engine. Loosen the bolts of covers in stages on a turn quarter at one time.
3. In six-cylinder engines bolts of covers (arrow) are located on each side the block of cylinders. Unscrew these bolts first of all in sequence of return that which is specified in drawing (see fig. the Sequence of a tightening of bolts of covers of radical bearings (6-cylinder engines)).
4. Then unscrew other bolts of covers in sequence of return sequence of a tightening (fig. Sequence of a tightening of lateral bolts of covers of radical bearings (6-cylinder engines) see).
5. Remove covers and get loose leaves of bearings.
6. Remove a cranked shaft.


1. Clear a cranked shaft solvent and dry up its compressed air.
2. Examine bearings of a cranked shaft on presence of wear tracks, scratches, corrosion or cracks.
3. Remove jags round lubricant apertures and clean apertures solvent.
4. Examine a cranked shaft on presence of cracks or other damages.
5. Measure diameters radical and шатунных bearings. To reveal конусность and ovality, measure diameter of each of bearings in several points. If necessary the cranked shaft needs to be processed in a specialised workshop.
6. Check up necks of epiploons of a cranked shaft on presence of wear tracks or damages. If epiploons have wiped flutes on necks new epiploons will pass oil.
