The general check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check up, that in a fuel tank there was fuel enough.
2. Check up, whether the fuel pump works. Include ignition and listen to a mouth of a fuel tank, you should hear a short buzzing sound. If the pump does not work, check up an electric chain of the pump.

Pressure check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lower pressure in fuel system. Disconnect a tube from the fuel filter and connect a pressure measuring instrument to a tube and to the fuel filter by means of an adapter.
2. Turn the ignition key in position ON (the engine does not work, air central air is disconnected). The fuel pump should join approximately on two seconds. Pressure in system should increase and keep on one mark. Pressure should not fall below a minimum specified in technical characteristics (subsection 6.2 see.).
3. Get the engine and warm up it to normal temperature. Write down indications of a measuring instrument and compare them to technical requirements.
4. If pressure of fuel does not correspond to technical requirements:
– Pressure too high – check up a regulator of pressure of fuel, if necessary replace a regulator;
– Pressure too low – replace the fuel filter. If pressure still low, check up, whether the injector or injectors proceeds. Check up serviceability of the fuel pump.

Check of an electric chain of the fuel pump

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the pump does not work, check up safety locks IGN and EFI, located in the block of fuses in an impellent compartment. If necessary replace safety locks, and again check up, whether the pump works. If the pump still does not work, check up an electric chain of the pump on short circuit presence.
2. If the pump still does not work, remove relay EFI and check up presence of pressure of the accumulator on contacts of a nest of the relay. Pressure on one of contacts should move always, pressure on other of contacts should move, when the ignition key is translated in position ON. If pressure does not move on contacts, check up conducting from the block of the relay to the accumulator. If pressure moves on nest contacts, check up relays. The basic relay of fuel system EFI is located in the block of the relay and fuses in an impellent compartment (it is specified by an arrow in drawing at the left). The relay of the fuel pump is located in the block of the relay and safety locks in car salon from outside passenger sitting (it is specified by an arrow in drawing on the right, models Avalon).
3. If relays are serviceable, and the pump still does not work, check up, whether pressure on the pump moves. If pressure moves, means, the pump is faulty, and it is necessary to replace it.

Check of the basic relay of fuel system (EFI)

Firm Toyota relay

1. An ohmmeter

Firm Nippondenso relay

Firm Bosch relay

1. The chain is closed
2. An ohmmeter

Remove the relay and connect a tester to contacts 1 and 2 (relays Toyota) or 85 and 86 (relays Bosch). The chain between these contacts should be closed, otherwise replace the relay. The chain between contacts 3 and 5 or 30 and 87 (firm Bosch relay) should be opened.

Firm Toyota relay

1. An ohmmeter

3. The accumulator


When on contacts 1 and 2 pressure of the accumulator, a chain between contacts 3 moves and 5 should be closed. Otherwise replace the relay.

Firm Nippondenso relay


1. The accumulator
2. An ohmmeter

When on contacts 1 and 2 pressure of the accumulator, a chain between contacts 3 moves and 5 should be closed. Otherwise replace the relay.

Firm Bosch relay


1. The accumulator
2. An ohmmeter
3. The chain is closed

When on contacts 85 and 86 pressure of the accumulator, a chain between contacts 87 moves and 30 should be closed. Otherwise replace the relay.
